The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate for Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, has emerged winner of Saturday’s local government election in a landslide.

Aroyewun polled a record-breaking 15,051 votes, the highest ever in the history of elections in the LCDA, defeating candidates from other parties by a wide margin.

The Returning Officer, Arimoro Priscilla Oluwakanyinsola, officially declared Aroyewun as the winner at 10:32 p.m. on Saturday at the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA secretariat.

Reacting to his victory, Aroyewun praised the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for conducting a credible poll.

“The people came out in their large numbers to elect who will govern them at the local council level for the next four years. I am sure that the result from this local council will be a landslide victory, as the people believe in what APC is doing in the state and the country at large,” he said.

“LASIEC’s efforts are very commendable today. Though we cannot rule out a few skirmishes, they displayed the status of a real electoral umpire.”

Aroyewun cast his vote at Polling Unit 009, Yewa/Odofin Junction at exactly 10:55 a.m. on election day.

Outgoing council chairman, Sesan Daini, commended the electoral body, the voters, and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and orderly process.

“I must also commend the electorate for coming out in their large numbers, likewise the security agencies for maintaining law and order. My expectation is for the APC to record a landslide victory in the 57 councils,” he said.
“This is going to be a litmus test for what Nigerians should expect from Lagos come 2027.”

Former Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Adebimpe Akinsola, also praised the conduct of the election, noting the prompt arrival of materials and ad hoc staff.

“It is our expectation that the APC will win this council and other councils in the state. We are also hoping that the total votes in this poll will be higher than what was recorded during the last council poll,” she stated.
“There was a large turnout of people today to cast their votes. This shows that they are seeing what APC is doing in the state and the country at large and they willingly voted for our party.”

Veteran politician and member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, also participated in the poll and praised the overall turnout and peaceful process.

Other prominent figures who cast their votes in Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA included Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, former Minister for Works and GAC member, and Asiwaju Kaoli Olusanya, a former Commissioner for Agriculture.
