Abia State House of Assembly Committee on Environment and Urban Renewal is engaging relevant stakeholders on environmental sanitation awareness campaign in the state.
The chairman of the committee, Kalu Mba Nwoke, disclosed this to LEADERSHIP in Umuahia, the state capital yesterday, saying the engagement was crucial.
The member for Ohafia South constituency said the campaign included workshops, public lectures and sensitisation of the public on the need for clean environment.
Noting the efforts of the environment ministry and the environmental protection agency to partner the committee, he urged residents to embibe the culture of cleanliness.
He expressed concern that some residents don’t comply with the government’s directive on environmental sanitation exercises until force is applied on them.
The chairman challenged traders in various markets in the state, especially those in Orie Ụgba Market, Umuahia to always observe the monthly sanitation exercise.
