The Academic Staff Union of Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero (ASUU- AFUSTA) has presented some outstanding demands to the Kebbi State government to avoid a looming strike.

The chairman of the union, Dr Musa Isah Fakai, made the demands in a statement he issued to journalists yesterday in Birnin Kebbi.

He said that the union decided to issue these demands, like the recent ones, as an avenue to express its anger over the well-known Labour-unfriendly incident at AFUSTA Aleiro.

According to him, the Union has been making such demands in the previous press conferences, releases and other media interactions; the problems remain numerous, and the situation remains critically unaddressed by the relevant stakeholders like the Ministry for higher education, university management, the Governing Council, even though we knew this was a government for the Comrade.

Fakai further listed demands which include non-implementation of the remuneration package of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, non-payment of earned academic allowances EAA from 2014 to date, backlogs of unpaid promotion arrears and non-implementation of annual salary increments, among others.

He called for the government to actualise these demands or risk industrial action from the Union.
