The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Sokoto State University Branch (ASUU-SSU) has appeal to Sokoto state government to address critical issues affecting the university’s smooth operations.

The union’s key concerns as stated in a press release signed by Saidu Isah Abubakar and Hassan Aliyu, chairman and secretary respectively include reconstitution of the Governing Council; payment of Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) and clearance of outstanding union deductions.

Other matters of concern by the union are enactment of salary increment; implementation of wage award and completion of the university staff quarters.

ASUU-SSU in the press release pointed out that, for the past nine months, the Sokoto State University had been operating without a Governing Council due to its dissolution by the state government- an action that violates the Universities Act (Miscellaneous Act 2003) and Sokoto State University Law 2009.
