A grieving mother, Mrs Favour Ayuba, whose son, Promise, was killed during a recent attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North LGA, Plateau State, has stirred widespread reactions after she was seen in a viral video on social media placing a cutlass in her slain son’s coffin and emotionally urging him to “avenge” his death for her,
In the viral video circulating on social media on Friday, the bereaved woman, speaking in Hausa language through deep anguish, said she had not eaten since the Palm Sunday night attack in which her son was killed.
Mrs Ayuba was seen in company of a few persons in a room bringing out a cutlass wrapped in a white cloth, which she had concealed beneath her clothing, before placing it inside her son’s coffin in an apparent symbolic act of seeking vengeance.
Overcome with grief, she said, “If you want me to forget, baby, avenge your death. I carried you in my womb for nine months; you suckled at my breast. Baby, I trust you, revenge for me, revenge for me. Please, wherever they are, follow them and avenge your death.”
Amid intermittent sobbing in the background, the grieving mother also invoked the biblical story of Gideon, describing her son as one she believed would return victorious from battle.
“Today is my birthday. I am grateful to God that today is my birthday, baby. You don’t like seeing me in tears, and I will not weep for you. Baby, I have not eaten since Sunday,” she said.
She continued, “I am begging you, because you have not warmed food for me to eat, but from today I promise you I will eat. I have a gift for you, baby. I trust you; I named you Promise Gideon Ayuba. Gideon in the Bible went to war and came back victorious.”
Mrs Ayuba had earlier appeared in another viral clip moment after the attack, which claimed about 28 lives, weeping uncontrollably as she clung to the lifeless body of her son, who was reportedly struck by bullets during the assault by unknown gunmen.
LEADERSHIP recalls that the latest wave of violence in Plateau State occurred on March 29, in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area, where gunmen attacked residents, killing at least 24 people and injuring several others.
