Zamfara State police commissioner, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, has admonished the 757 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state to be vigilant and security-conscious throughout their service year.
Bello gave the piece of advice in a lecture he gave on personal safety and security awareness at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Gusau, yesterday
The event was attended by the NYSC state coordinator, his management team and representatives of other security agencies.
Bello urged the corps members to avoid unnecessary risks, comply with security advisories and be mindful of their movements, especially when travelling outside the camp.
He cautioned them against visiting unfamiliar or high-risk locations without adequate information and necessary precautions.
The police chief told the corps members to promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to appropriate security agencies rather than attempting to investigate such threats themselves.
“Corps members are not security operatives and should prioritise their personal safety at all times,” he stressed.
He emphasised the need for collaboration between the police, other security agencies, NYSC management, host communities and corps members to maintain a safe and secure environment.
The CP assured the corps members of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging them to remain law-abiding and responsible ambassadors of the NYSC scheme.
He commended the NYSC coordinator and other security agencies for their efforts in promoting safety in the state.
In his remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator thanked the commissioner for the lecture, noting that it would help the corps members make informed decisions and adopt safer practices.
The command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding residents and visitors, stressing that personal safety is a shared responsibility.
