Bandits Forced Us To Eat Grass, Kaduna Woman Narrates Ordeal In Captivity

A 60-year-old woman, Hanatu Luka, from Ungwa Makama in Kajuru local government area of Kaduna State, has recounted her harrowing two-month ordeal in bandits’ captivity.

She said they were beaten, chained, forced to eat grass and made to sleep under the rain.

Luka told LEADERSHIP that the bandits subjected them to severe hardship throughout the period they were held in the bush, leaving them to struggle for food.

“We were forced to eat grass. We endured hunger, they beat and chained us, and sometimes we slept under the rain,” she said.

According to her, hunger became a daily reality as the captives were denied adequate food, forcing them to eat grass to survive.

The 60-year-old grandmother added that the two months in captivity were marked by fear and uncertainty, as the captives did not know when they would regain their freedom or what their abductors might do to them.

She added that the experience left painful memories, particularly the hunger, physical abuse and degrading conditions they were forced to endure.

She said, “Those two months were full of fear and uncertainty. We did not know when we would regain our freedom or what they would do to us.

“Even after returning home, I cannot forget what we went through, the hunger, the beatings, the chains, sleeping under the rain and being forced to eat grass. It is an experience I will never forget”. The ordeal has left Luka with painful memories of hunger, beatings, chains, sleeping under the rain and being forced to eat grass, experiences she said she would struggle to forget even after returning home.
