Bandits Kill 4, Abduct 6 In Zamfara Attacks

Bandits have killed four persons and abducted six persons when they launched simultaneous attacks on Zurmi and Maru local government arears of Zamfara State.

The hoodlums had besieged Zurmi town, the headquarters of Zurmi local government area, where they made spirited efforts to forcefully gain entry into the palace of an Emir.

A resident of the area, Musa Mande told LEADERSHIP that the bandits opened fire on the palace of the traditional ruler as well as the neighbouring residence belonging to the former military administrator of Nasarawa State, Col. Bala Mande (Rtd).

He further hinted that the Emir was evacuated to Gusau, the state capital by security agents for his safety.

According to him, the bandits killed three persons and abducted three other persons during the incident.

He also stated that the bandits set the MTN mast at the place on fire, destroying all associated network boosting equipment at the facility during the attack.

Similarly, bandits also attacked Maru town, the headquarters of Maru local government council where they killed one person and kidnapped three others.

One Musa Ibrahim Maru told our correspondent via telephone that the bandits besieged the town around 11:00 pm Wednesday night.

According to him, the invasion of the town by bandits lasted more than two hours.

“The bandits ransacked the town for over two hours. As I am speaking to you now, many residents mainly women and children have fled the town for their safety”, he added.
