The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has scheduled August 17, 2024, as the date to conduct elections into all the twenty (20) local government chairmanship seats in the state.

Executive Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Ahmed Makama while speaking with journalists in Bauchi, also assured citizens of the state of BASIEC’s readiness to conduct credible and acceptable local government election.

Makama said the election is expected to fill twenty (20) chairmanship, alongside 323 councillorship seats.

As part of its plan for a fair handling of the task, the chairman said an interactive meeting has recently been conducted with political parties and other stakeholders.

He explained that the commission has adequate funding to deliver its constitutional mandate, stressing that there will be no room for shortage of electoral materials.

Makama charged political parties and candidates to scrutinise deeply relevant sections of the constitution and electoral guidelines to play the game according to the rules.

Turning to the voters, he said the Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) used during the previous elections will be the valid authentication for the election and called for co-operation from the citizens to strengthen the electoral system.

Alhaji Makama further commended the support and synergy enjoined from the key actors, particularly the security agencies and community leaders towards ensuring the conduct of a seamless exercise.
