Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Suleiman, has appealed to the executive arm of government to construct an additional student hostel at the Bill and Melinda Gates College of Health Technology, Ningi, to tackle the growing accommodation challenge in the college.
The speaker, who said this during an interaction with the college’s management in his office, also reaffirmed the legislature’s total resolve to support the college’s management in addressing its internal challenges.
He commended the management’s discernment in identifying the root causes of the institution’s setbacks, noting that such clarity of purpose and proactive engagement would serve as a solid foundation for sustainable reform.
The speaker pledged that the House would extend the necessary legislative backing to facilitate meaningful interventions and ensure the institution regains its credibility.
He warned the interim management to consider strategic internal restructuring, suggesting that a thoughtful redeployment of personnel could help unlock efficiency and restore institutional discipline.
Earlier, the Interim Provost, Adamu Mato, laid bare the gravity of the college’s predicament, citing declining academic discipline, insufficient accommodation, lack of operational vehicles, and a flawed admissions process as pressing concerns demanding urgent redress.
He lamented that the legacy of prior leadership had left the institution in disarray, necessitating immediate, coordinated intervention.
