The Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) has supported the Yobe State government through the rural water supply and sanitation agency and water corporation with submersible pumps and accessories for emergency borehole repair and maintenance.
While handing over the water project and equipment, the state coordinator of the commission, Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abba, said the project was part of efforts to complement the state government’s initiatives in expanding the Buni Gari water supply to cover Buni Yadi and its environs.
Abbas highlighted that the project was part of the 222 projects carried out under the leadership of Muhammad Goni Alkali, the managing director of the commission, across the state to support Governor Buni’s post-conflict recovery programme.
He restated the commission’s readiness to continue supporting the state government’s implementation-oriented policies and programmes to improve citizens’ living conditions.
The state coordinator outlines that the water project includes the installation of an integrated solar system with a hybrid inverter, construction of a 2,000-litre-capacity surface tank and a 10,000-litre-capacity overhead tank, pipeline reticulation, pumps, cables, perimeter fencing, and other facilities.
According to the state coordinator, following the request of the people of Buni Yadi, the NEDC executed a six-point zero-one rectification of the pipeline to cover the town and its surrounding communities.
Receiving the project on behalf of the Yobe state government, the general manager of the state water corporation, Baba Habu and the representative of the rural water supply and sanitation agency, Mai Sule Abubakar, said the project would bring an end to the problem of water scarcity in Buni Yadi and its environs.
They commended the northeast development commission for the intervention, adding that the state water corporation would take full ownership of the projects for proper maintenance and utilisation.
It could be recalled that on 2 June 2025, Governor Mai Mala Buni, alongside the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari and the management of NEDC, handed over developmental projects, including water and sanitation, road construction and human capital development, among others.
