Bauchi State chief judge, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, has sworn in 31 newly appointed judges of Sharia Courts, charging them to uphold justice with integrity and impartiality.
The ceremony, which was held at High Court No. 1 on Yandoka Road in Bauchi, marked a significant step toward strengthening the judiciary at the grassroots level.
In her address, Justice Rabi emphasised fairness, diligence, and adherence to the rule of law.
Justice Umar urged the judges to remain steadfast in the face of pressure and ensure justice is accessible to all citizens regardless of status, noting that the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man.
She further stressed the importance of ethical conduct, continuous learning, and a strong sense of responsibility, warning against actions beyond their jurisdiction, such as issuing improper injunctions or interfering with security agencies.
The Chief Judge added that any misconduct or behaviour that brings the judiciary into disrepute would not be tolerated.
She commended members of the appointment committee and the Judicial Service Commission for their dedication and transparency in the selection process, and congratulated the newly appointed judges on their success.
Barrister Muhammad Salihu, who spoke on behalf of the appointees, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them.
