The Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Rt. Hon. Mohammad Auwal Jatau, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), joining Governor Bala Mohammed on the new political platform.
The move follows his formal resignation from the PDP, which took effect on May 1, 2026.
In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of his Murmur South Ward in Zaki Local Government Area, Jatau expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunities it gave him to serve in various capacities.
“The PDP has played a significant role in shaping my political journey and has given me the privilege to contribute to the development of our state and the nation,” he said.
He, however, cited the lingering crisis within the party as the reason for his decision, noting that the lack of clear and cohesive leadership has created challenges for members’ political aspirations and the party’s stability.
Jatau explained that, under such circumstances, remaining in the PDP would limit his ability to effectively pursue his future political goals.
The deputy governor also congratulated Governor Bala Mohammed on his move to the APM and pledged his full support and cooperation towards achieving the party’s objectives.
He further called on his political associates, supporters, and well-wishers to join the new movement and work towards the success of the APM in the 2027 general elections.
