Bauchi State government has distributed relief materials to victims of this year’s flood disaster across the state to cushion the effects of the tragedy on their lives.
The relief materials were donated to the victims by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Nigeria through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
About 16 local government areas in Bauchi have recorded one or more incidents of flood disasters this year leading to the death of 24 people while 163 others were severely injured.
Similarly, about 12 major roads were cut off by the flood and 60 culverts were destroyed; 122,330 households were displaced; 52,035 houses were destroyed; 178 electric poles collapsed while 11,183 livestock were lost.
Distributing the relief materials to the victims yesterday in Bauchi, the commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajara Wanka said assorted food items and farm implements were distributed to the victims across the affected local government areas.
Wanka explained that the state government added a bag of rice and maize to the items given to each of the victims to further provide succour.
