Bauchi Govt Seals Clinic Over Unsafe Blood Transfusion

The Bauchi State Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has sealed off a private health facility, Community Clinic Durum, for allegedly operating without a valid license and exposing patients to dangerous medical practices.

The clinic, located in Durum village along the Bauchi-Ningi Road in Bauchi local government area, was shut down after an inspection team from the ministry uncovered what officials described as “serious breaches” of medical standards.

During the raid, inspectors reportedly found a minor receiving a blood transfusion under what they termed unsafe and unethical conditions – a discovery that immediately raised red flags about the facility’s standard of care.

According to officials, the clinic’s manager was unable to clearly explain the procedures used to determine the patient’s blood level before the transfusion. He also reportedly failed to confirm the source and safety of the blood being administered.

More damning, inspectors said, was his inability to produce a valid operating license issued by the State Ministry of Health.

The inspection team, led by the director of Medical Services, Dr Sulaiman Auwal Abubakar, ordered the immediate sealing of the premises and directed the police to arrest the clinic manager for further investigation.

Speaking after the operation, Dr Abubakar disclosed that the operator is currently under police investigation and would be charged to court once inquiries are concluded.

Health authorities warned that the crackdown is part of a broader effort to rid the state of quackery and ensure that all health facilities adhere strictly to professional and ethical standards.
