Bauchi Govt Steps Up Plan To Revive Yankari Game Reserve

Bauchi State government has escalated its bid to revive the famous Yankari Game Reserve to attract global tourism.

Yankari Reserve is one of the largest natural wildlife habitats in Africa housing fauna and flora on about 2,244 square kilometres. It also has natural spring water which attracts tourists and visitors.

Governor Bala Mohammed, who went on an unscheduled inspection visit, said the rehabilitation of the reserve is ongoing, adding that the vision is to transform it to global standards.

He said while his administration executed several infrastructural projects in the state, there is a need to now turn attention to the tourism sector, which is what Bauchi is known for.

Governor Mohammed said the previous administration of former governor of the state, Ahmed Mu’azu invested and transformed Yankari Game Reserve but regretted that nothing had been done since then.

He said as a native of Duguri, one of the communities around the reserve, it becomes more pressing for him to upgrade Yankari Game Reserve to attract tourists and improve revenue generation of the state.

The chief executive officer of Architechtronix, the firm handling the project, Reuben Okoya assured the governor of quality work.
