A mobile court sitting at the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) has convicted four persons for violating sanitation and environmental laws in the state.
The convicts were reportedly granted leniency after pleading with the court.
The presiding magistrate, Laraba Hamisu, convicted Musa Bashir of Magaji Quarters for violating the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
He was sentenced to 10 days of community service under the supervision of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Bauchi State Command, and BASEPA.
The court also took action against Malam Bello Hassan of Kur for allegedly blocking waterways.
Similarly, Sarajo Yusuf, Shu’aibu Abubakar and Adamu Musa, all residents of Zango, were convicted for blocking their neighbour’s wastewater channel through illegal construction on a setback.
Meanwhile, Barr. M.S. Abdulkarim, counsel for Malam Bello Hassan, who was accused of disobeying a court order directing him to remove an illegal blockage of waterways, applied for an adjournment to enable him to study the matter. The court granted the application.
