The Bauchi State Board of Internal Revenue has organised a sensitisation workshop for the 20 local government directors of Revenue to familiarise them with the four new taxes introduced by the federal government, led by Bola Tinubu, in 2025.

The workshop brought together key revenue officers from across the state and aimed to prevent multiple taxation and harmonise revenue collection between the state and local governments.

Speaking at the event yesterday, the chairman of the Bauchi State Board of Internal Revenue, Alhaji Mu’azu Usman, said the workshop was organised to align revenue administration between the state and local government areas.

He disclosed that a bill is currently before the Bauchi State House of Assembly seeking to establish a new law that would empower both the state and local governments to collect specific revenues while harmonising their operations.

According to him, the workshop was intended to brief the directors, as major stakeholders, on the contents, operations, and expected benefits of the proposed law once it becomes operational.

Alhaji Usman explained that the initiative’s primary objective is to eliminate multiple taxation, in line with the broader goals of the ongoing national tax reforms.

Also speaking, the coordinating director of the Bauchi State Board of Internal Revenue, Alhaji Baiti Yahaya, who presented a paper during the workshop, highlighted key changes introduced under the new tax framework.

He explained that under the new Value Added Tax (VAT) sharing formula, the federal government’s share has been reduced, while states now receive a larger allocation from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) disbursement.

According to him, states with greater economic activities will receive higher VAT allocations under the new arrangement.

Alhaji Yahaya further stated that low-income earners have been relieved of tax burdens, noting that individuals earning less than N800,000 annually are now exempted from taxation.

He added that the new law also emphasises the establishment of Local Government Revenue Committees and addresses the harmonisation of taxes and levies between state and local governments to ensure transparency and clarity for taxpayers.
