The event which was held at the Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekeki in Yenagoa, the state capital, also featured the swearing in of the council chairmen and their vices and witnessed by members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, state executive members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), family members, friends and well wishes.

The newly elected chairmen are Mr Bulodisiye Ndiwari (PDP) Yenagoa LGA, Lelei Tariye (PDP) Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA, Golden Jeremiah (PDP) Ogbia LGA,  Onniye Isaac (PDP) Ekeremor LGA, Chief David Alagoa (PDP) Nembe LGA, Target Segibo (PDP) Southern Ijaw LGA, Mrs Alice Allen Tangi (PDP) Sagbama LGA and Febo Lucky (PDP) Brass LGA.

In an opening remark, the chairman of BYSIEC, Dr Peter Singabele, said the event is a brief but important ceremony for the commission, adding that similar ceremonies will be held at the eight local government headquarters for the 105 councilors who were also elected.

“We are about to present Certificate of Return to those who emerged victorious in the just concluded local government elections. This is a brief ceremony but very important. This is the last step on the part of BYSIEC in the 2024 elections. When you have your certificate and when eventually you are sworn in, you can now operate as elected chairmen of the eight local government areas and that is the third tier of government in a democratic setup at the grassroots”, he said.
