The Kaduna State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has described as laughable the impeachment of the national president of the association, Mr Isaiah Benjamin by a few members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) on Monday.

In a statement jointly signed by its chairman and secretary, Shehu Abdullahi and Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, noted that such NEC members have shown disrespect for the office of the president and should be immediately sanctioned to bring sanity to the association.

“We are deeply concerned that a few NEC members, who we suspect are being remote controlled, would go this way and bring shame and disrepute to our respected association through actions that are capable of causing disaffection to SWAN.

“It is laughable that a few NEC members, mainly those that have been suspended at one time or the other, would hold an imaginary meeting and claim it was a NEC sitting.

“This must stop henceforth, as the association cannot continue to be distracted by such persons, who may not have the best interest of the association at heart.”

SWAN Kaduna State demanded immediate withdrawal of the offensive communique said to have been drafted by Ijeoma Nwante, Austin Ajayi, Seun Ajayi Obe and Mohammed Mansour.

They also demanded an apology from those who appended their signatures on the communique.

“We are giving them only 24 hours to do the needful,” the statement said, while being silent on actions to be taken if the warning is not heeded.
