The Benue State Police Command has said it arrested a suspected major bandits supplier of arms and ammunition and the recovery of one hundred and fifteen rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition during a routine stop-and-search operation in Guma Local Government Area of the state.

The police said the arrest followed a proactive operation by operatives of the Guma Division on Tuesday, 28th July, 2026, adding that while conducting a stop-and-search operation, the team intercepted two persons riding on a motorcycle.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Peter Aondongu, the police explained that upon sighting the police, one of the occupants alighted from the motorcycle and fled into a nearby bush.

“The remaining suspect, identified as Joro Jakata, a 20-year-old male from Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, was apprehended. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of one hundred and fifteen (115) rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition concealed in his possession.

“The suspect is currently in police custody, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Makurdi, for discreet investigation. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice and unravel the source, intended destination, and circumstances surrounding conveyance of the ammunition,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, Cletus Nwadiogbu, has commended the vigilance, professionalism, and alertness of the operatives whose prompt action led to the recovery.
