Nigerian actress Blessing Nze Obasi has responded to criticism of her role as a lesbian inmate in the second season of ‘Blood Sisters’. She said many viewers failed to separate her personal beliefs from her work as an actress.

Speaking on Yanga FM, Obasi revealed that some Christian viewers questioned her faith after watching the series. She said the reaction showed a misunderstanding of acting and storytelling.

According to the actress, the character reflected realities found in correctional facilities and was not intended to promote same-sex relationships. She added that the production handled the storyline carefully and avoided explicit scenes.

Obasi stressed that actors are expected to play different roles, regardless of their personal views.

She said the series aimed to tell authentic stories about prison life, not to endorse any lifestyle or pass moral judgment.

“I wore my full outfit in that scene. However, the production company was sensitive enough not to depict its goriness. They are not in support of it (lesbianism), but they are telling the story, and it was short and decent. There is so much positivity. I put my mind on that”.

The actress said the experience changed her perspective and how it made her think about the way audiences view films. She urged viewers to value the creative process and remember that actors are different from the characters they portray.
