This is contained in a statement signed by the special adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalma (rtd), which was made available to journalists in Damaturu.

He said the warning became necessary following the detonation of an abandoned unexploded ordnances picked by unsuspecting scavengers crossing over from the deserted parts of Sambisa Forest to Goniri area injuring five of them.

According to the statement, the public was advised to report any suspicious object or movement of persons in their communities.

He also said the military Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit is working round the clock to explode devices that might have been abandoned in the past years.
