Yobe State governor, Hon Mai Mala Buni, has warned the public, especially metal scavengers known as ‘Baban Bola,’ against collecting and moving scraps and other abandoned metal objects from other places into the state.
This is contained in a statement signed by the special adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalma (rtd), which was made available to journalists in Damaturu.
He said the warning became necessary following the detonation of an abandoned unexploded ordnances picked by unsuspecting scavengers crossing over from the deserted parts of Sambisa Forest to Goniri area injuring five of them.
According to the statement, the public was advised to report any suspicious object or movement of persons in their communities.
He also said the military Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit is working round the clock to explode devices that might have been abandoned in the past years.
Dahiru called on the people of the area to always support and cooperate with the security operatives in order to protect the lives and property of the citizens.
