Victor Boniface has returned to Werder Bremen after completing a rehabilitation programme at Bayer Leverkusen.
The Super Eagles striker underwent surgery in January after sustaining an injury during training, but there is growing optimism that he could feature again before the end of the season.
Werder Bremen’s Head of Professional Football, Peter Niemeyer, confirmed that Boniface will initially train individually before gradually reintegrating into the squad.
“Victor will train on his own throughout the week before being carefully eased back into team sessions. We are hopeful he can still play a part before the season ends,” Niemeyer said.
Boniface joined Bremen on loan from Leverkusen last summer and has contributed two assists in 12 league appearances so far.
His return is expected to provide a timely boost for the club as they push towards the final stages of the campaign.
