An umbrella of the Jamaatu Nasir Islam (JNI), the Nigeria Aid Group of Islam has begun distributing cash and food items worth N35 million to 4000 victims of the recent Maiduguri flood disaster.

Speaking during the distribution of food and cash to the flood victims at the Bakassi internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp on Thursday in Maiduguri, the national secretary of the Nigeria Aid Group of Islam Jamaatu Nasril Islam, Alhaji Aminu Sani Mabera, said apart from relief items and other logistics, the victims would also benefit from medical outreach where medical experts will diagnose and treat beneficiaries according to ailment they are suffering.

Mabera said the JNI distributes relief items and medical outreach in collaboration with the Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC), the Movement for Islamic Culture and Awareness (MICA), and the Tahara Collective.

He added that they decided to visit to sympathise with the people and government of Borno State, especially those heavily affected by the flood disaster.

“ And we also plan to, inshallah, give our medical assistance to the people of the State, especially the victims of this flooding. We are also at the Bakassi IDP camp, assisting them. We plan to help them with clothes, food, cash assistance and, most importantly, medical outreach.

“ We will diagnose them and also give them pre-treatment, pre-consultation, free drugs and some other things that will be available, God willing. That’s why we are here in Bono state, and not only the IDPs, but we also plan to assist so many areas that are heavily affected, most affected by some assistance, Inshallah.

“In the other areas, we will also assist them with the same magnitude regarding financial assistance, food items, medical outreach, and clothes, Inshallah. We met with the committee set up by the state government, and they are immediately working towards giving us the areas in which we will be working.

“We are targeting to reach at least 4000 people. One thousand people will benefit from clothing, cash assistance for 1000 people, and medical aid for 1000 people. And food items will also get to 1000 people.
