Buhari, Akpabio, Abbas, Others Mourn Victims Of Kano Auto Crash

Former President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen have mourned the victims of the Kano auto crash.

Buhari sent messages of condolence following the death of more than one hundred persons in floods that destroyed homes and displaced thousands of residents earlier last week in Niger state, and that of Kano 22 young athletes, coaches, and officials, who died in a ghastly auto crash.

In his messages to the bereaved families, governments and the people of Niger and Kano states, the former president said the tragic incidents, happening in a quick sequence had left him shocked and devastated as it did many people in different parts of the world.

A statement issued by his media aide, Garba Shehu, the former president said, “I am deeply pained by the loss of lives due to the floods in Niger state and the road accident in Kano state.

“The deaths are painful and devastating—condolences to the families and friends of all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon,” Buhari said.

Also, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, commiserated with the governor of Kano State, Mallam Abba Kabiru Yusuf, and the families of 22 members of the state contingent to the just concluded National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

Akpabio, who represented President Bola Tinubu at the games‘ closing ceremony in Abeokuta on Friday, sent his condolences in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh.

He said, “It is with profound sadness that I received the news of the tragic death of 22 members of the Kano State contingent that participated in the National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, also expressed profound sorrow over the deaths of the 22 athletes.

The athletes, who were part of the Kano State contingent at the just-concluded Nigerian National Sports Festival held in Ogun State, were returning from the event when their vehicle reportedly plunged into a river, killing 22 persons and leaving several others injured.

Describing the incident as tragic, Speaker Abbas prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and quick recovery for the injured.

Similarly, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu expressed sadness over the death of members of the Kano State contingent returning from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

Kalu described the death of the young athletes as painful, heartbreaking and a devastating blow to the nation.

He noted that the late athletes, through their passion, dedicated themselves to excellence in sports, for a brighter future for the nation, saying that their good deeds will never be forgotten.
