Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Most Rev Peter Nworie Chukwu has asserted that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is helpless in combating the menace of Boko Haram, bandits, kidnappers and other security challenges in the country.
Bishop Chukwu declared that Nigerians had lost hope in the present administration to tackle the worsening insecurity in the country and restore hope and peace to the people.
The cleric spoke in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital during the grand finale of the 2022 Abakaliki Diocesan Communication Week and the inauguration of Catholic Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (CAMPAN), Abakaliki Diocese.
He expressed regret that when President Buhari was campaigning for the presidency, he came with his credentials as a former military leader who was an anti-corruption crusader that would not tolerate any corruption.
He maintained that President Buhari promised to nip in the bud all cases of Boko Haram attacks but unfortunately, when he took power, he fell victim to those people who doesn’t want the progress and growth of the country and they are using him to accomplish that project.
“The present administration is helpless to combat the problem of ending the Boko Haram. If you look closely, you will see that all the leaders of our security apparatus are from the core Fulani, it has never been like that in the history of Nigeria.”
“There was a balance in appointments, a reflection of federal character in the appointment of the leaders of the security outfits. But now, it is so lopsided that they will always execute their agenda without any much opposition.
“Come to think of it again, a lot of people have lost their voice because what do you say and they will come after you. In spite of this, people who are rational are very uncomfortable with what is going on. So, it is very unfortunate.
“Appeals have not helped in this government. The people have lost faith in the current government to restore security.
“What we are praying for now in Nigeria is for a peaceful, free and fair elections that will usher in God chosen leaders who will solve the problems of this country.
“If the problem is not solved, the continued existence of Nigeria as a corporate entity is under a very serious question mark,” he said.
Bishop Chukwu urged journalists in the country to hold candidates of different political parties to task and also charge them to present their manifestoes to the people.
