Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, has appealed to Kwarans, especially his people from the southern district, to allow the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, pick his successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Fagbemi made the appeal during the Kwara South Summit held at Ajase-Ipo in Irepodun local government area of the state.

At the end of summit, the people of Kwara south agreed to support Kwara north to produce the next governor of the state.

The people agreed that the governorship seat should be ceded to Kwara north in the interest of equity and fairness, noting that the last time the northern district produced a state governor was in 1991.

The APC chairman commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for promoting equity and fairness in the state.

He  emphasised  that AbdulRazaq has ensured that equity and fairness prevail in every region of the state, allowing all citizens to reap the benefits of democracy.

Fagbemi added that the impact of AbdulRazaq’s administration is visible in all the 193 wards of the state, with noticeable improvements in each area.

“It is to tell everyone that there is need to bring the economic, social and cultural prosperity into what we are doing so that our people will share.

He added that he was humbled to be celebrating about two decades of the carnival, lauding the three erstwhile  governors of the state for holding on to what former governor Donald Duke started.

Otu said a new band called Diaspora Band may be added in future to cater for the people in the Diaspora.

Wife of former president, Hajia Aisha Buhari, and her children along with Kwara and Kogi state  governors, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq and Usman Ododo, as well as European Union and United Nations representatives graced the carnival.

In his remarks, Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, praised Gov  Bassey Otu for sustaining and adding more creativity and style to the event.

He said the event puts Nigeria on the map as it is a global event and improves the state’s internally generated revenue.

Chairman of the Carnival Commission, Mr. Gab Onah, said they had laboured since the start of the millennium to change the story, stressing that they were beginning to see the fruits.

Onah said this year’s event was another testimony of their humble effort to unite the world, give love and help foster peaceful coexistence.
