Matchday One featured three exciting games, setting the tone for what promises to be a fiercely competitive tournament.

The opening game was a thrilling encounter, with Team AVM/APUGO securing a narrow 2-1 victory over Karomajiji All Stars FC. The first goal came just two minutes into the game when Yuyu delivered a stunning free kick, resulting from a foul on their striker, FreshBOSS.

The striker had made an exceptional drive and was through on goal before being brought down by a Karomajiji FC defender. Moments later, Freke Obobo doubled the lead with a spectacular long-range strike, putting AVM/APUGO firmly in control.

Despite a spirited effort, Karomajiji FC managed to pull one back a few minutes before the end of regulation time, but it proved to be too little, too late.

In the second game of the day, Capital City FC emerged victorious with a slim 1-0 win over Karamajiji FC. The decisive goal was scored by Buyor Tersee, whose composed finish secured all three points for Capital City FC.

The final game of the day ended in a hard-fought 0-0 draw between Team AVM/APUGO and Capital City FC. Both teams displayed excellent defensive organization in what was a highly competitive encounter.

The tournament was officially opened by John Umoren, Vice President of Capital Sportiff Sports Club, who took the ceremonial kickoff. Umoren expressed satisfaction with the organization of the event.

“I am impressed by the level of readiness displayed by the clubs playing in the opening matches of the Presidents’ Cup organized by Capital Sportiff FC. The tournament has the potential to blossom into an annual soccer fiesta of great interest in the FCT, given its design, the caliber of participating clubs, and the quality of players. Sponsors have a unique opportunity to support this as a platform for sports tourism.” Umoren stated.

The club’s President, Prince Leonard Ocheuje, also applauded the success of Matchday One, emphasizing the role of sports in community development.

“This tournament is a testament to our commitment to promoting grassroots sports and uniting communities through football. The energy and passion displayed by the players today underscore the immense potential we have in fostering talent and creating opportunities for young athletes. I encourage everyone to support this initiative as we look to establish it as a cornerstone of sports excellence in Abuja.” Ocheuje remarked.

The tournament continues on Saturday, December 7, 2024, with Group B matches set to deliver more exciting football action. The grand finale, featuring the leaders of the two groups, will take place on December 14, 2024, alongside the third-place match between the runners-up of each group.
