Championship: Blackburn Must Fight For Points – Alebiosu

Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Alebiosu has urged his teammates to show greater fight in their remaining Championship matches as the club battles to avoid relegation.

Rovers, who sit 21st in the table with 49 points from 44 games, face a crucial away fixture against Sheffield United on Wednesday night. With only two matches left after that, every result is now vital for Michael O’Neill’s side.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Alebiosu stressed the importance of scrapping for every point. “Every point is so valuable,” he said. “We need everything we can get to survive. It’s a good point, even if we were so close to three.”

The Nigerian international was speaking after Blackburn’s 1-1 draw with Coventry City last Friday—a game in which he was named the standout performer.

Despite conceding a late equaliser in the final five minutes, Alebiosu believes the team’s overall display offers real hope.

“I think performances like that, and we’ll be fine,” he said. “The boys were together, and the substitutes coming on made a difference. The whole togetherness from start to finish. If we take that to the next two games, we will be fine, 100%.”

The right-back admitted the late goal was frustrating but urged his side to focus on the positives. “It’s frustrating to give away that goal in the last five minutes. It’s a point, and we have a huge game now on Wednesday that we’re looking forward to.

“We played a good game, we got ourselves ahead. We knew it wouldn’t be easy, and they wanted to come here to get promoted. It was a great performance, the last five minutes are just frustrating, it’s minor details.”

With the relegation battle coming down to the wire, Alebiosu made clear that only a fighting mentality will keep Blackburn in the second tier.

“These last few games are big games for us. We have to win our battles. They dug deep, and we’re raring to go.”
