Following a captivating performance at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 in Morocco, Super Eagles manager Éric Chelle has unequivocally set his sights on securing the coveted AFCON title in 2027.

Despite a commendable third-place finish, Chelle believes his dynamic squad is primed to go the distance in the next iteration of Africa’s premier football tournament.

The Super Eagles were undoubtedly one of the revelations of AFCON 2025, capturing the imagination of fans across the continent with their exhilarating and remarkably potent attacking brand of football. Their free-scoring approach saw them net an impressive 14 goals throughout the competition, the highest tally of any team, showcasing a relentless offensive prowess that often overwhelmed opponents.

Furthermore, a key highlight of their campaign was an almost impenetrable defence in the crucial knockout rounds. The Super Eagles demonstrated remarkable tactical discipline and defensive solidity, remarkably not conceding a single goal from open play in the entirety of the knockout stages. This balance of blistering attack and resolute defence provides a strong foundation for Chelle’s ambitious 2027 target.

Speaking to reporters upon the team’s return, Chelle expressed his optimism: “We showed glimpses of what we are truly capable of in Morocco. The attacking flair, the goals, and the defensive resilience in the big games – these are all indicators of a team that is maturing and ready to challenge for the ultimate prize. Our focus now shifts to building on this momentum and ensuring we are fully prepared to lift the AFCON trophy in 2027.”
