Chelsea Agree £40m Deal For Atalanta Teenager Ahanor

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Atalanta to sign 18-year-old defender Honest Ahanor in a deal worth up to £40m, with the teenage left-back set to spend the remainder of the season on loan at Crystal Palace.

The Blues have secured the Italy youth international but will immediately loan him to Palace, where he will complete the 2025-26 campaign before officially joining Chelsea next summer.

Chelsea first showed interest in Ahanor during negotiations with Atalanta over the signing of right-back Marco Palestra in July.

Ahanor joined Atalanta from Genoa last summer for a reported €16m, with a further €4m in potential add-ons, signing a three-year contract.

He quickly established himself in Atalanta’s first-team plans, making 28 Serie A appearances last season and earning his Champions League debut in a 2-1 victory over Club Brugge in September.

His progress also earned him recognition at international level, with the defender receiving his first call-up to the Italy senior squad in May for friendly matches against Luxembourg and Greece.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso, who took charge in July, has continued to reshape the squad during the transfer window. The club have already spent heavily, including a reported club-record £117m move for England midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, while experienced Premier League players Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson have also arrived.

Chelsea have also sanctioned the departure of striker Marc Guiu, who has joined Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in a deal worth £14.6m including add-ons.

Guiu, 20, moved to Stamford Bridge from Barcelona in July 2024 and scored eight goals in 29 first-team appearances for Chelsea before making the switch to Germany.
