Chido Obi-Martin has confirmed his departure from Arsenal with Manchester United still awaiting a final decision from the 16-year-old wonderkid.

Football.london reports that United had been in discussions to sign the highly-rated striker – although Bayern Munich were also thought to be interested in securing his signature.

Obi-Martin underlined his burgeoning reputation last season with a goals galore campaign for the Academy team. He netted seven times in a 9-0 victory over Norwich City.

That eye-catching outing came after the Denmark youngster scored five against West Ham – and four each in wins over Crystal Palace and Fulham – to keep him in the headlines. Obi-Martin has been a hot-topic this summer, too, as he prepares to wave goodbye to the Emirates Stadium in order to confirm his next move.

In a short post on his Instagram account, the forward said: “Thank you, Arsenal.” He included a prayer hands emoji on that upload and promptly went into more detail about the decision on his story.

Obi-Martin, who plundered 32 goals in 18 matches for Arsenal U18s last season, continued: “I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everybody at Arsenal for the last four years. The experiences and growth I’ve achieved here have been truly invaluable. A special thanks to the coaches, staff and team-mates at Hale End.”

United have been working on a deal to sign Obi-Martin this summer. He has visited their Carrington training base, while they are thought to be front-runners for his signature.

Arsenal will be due compensation as and when that proposed transfer goes through. However, the player remains on red alert across Europe with Bayern also understood to be in the market for Obi-Martin – who touched down in north London from FC Copenhagen in 2022 when he was 14-years-old.
