Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has reassured voters that they would be fully protected against harassment, intimidation or disruption during the forthcoming area council elections.

He gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the National Peace Committee at his office in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

The commandant, in a statement by  the command’s spokesperson, DSC Monica Ojobe, said NSCDC personnel in the FCT had been rigorously trained by INEC and were fully prepared to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful electoral process on February 21.

He said, “As a key stakeholder in election security, our responsibility begins well before election day, and we will remain on duty until the results are declared—ensuring there is no chaos or violence. We are trained to monitor the entire election process closely, and I have personally held meetings with all divisional officers to guarantee zero compromise.”

He encouraged voters to exercise their democratic right confidently, noting that the corps, alongside other security agencies, would maintain peace and transparency in the election.

Dr. Odumosu disclosed that 4,000 personnel had been strategically deployed across the FCT, with covert officers assigned to crisis-prone polling centers to conduct surveillance and prevent election-day surprises.

He further urged parents and guardians to caution youths against being manipulated by desperate politicians seeking power through inducements or violence, emphasising the importance of lawful and ethical participation in the democratic process.

Commending the National Peace Committee for their timely visit, Dr. Odumosu assured continued collaboration with civil society organisations, observer groups and associations to strengthen election security and uphold the integrity of the process.

In her remarks, Project Manager of the National Peace Committee, Asabe Ndahi, Esq, described the visit as an opportunity to discuss the evolving election security landscape, share preliminary observations and identify areas for cooperation. She praised the NSCDC’s preparedness and reiterated the committee’s commitment to the ongoing collaboration with the corps to ensure peaceful elections.
