Clergy Raises Concern Over Digital Age Impact On Christian Families

The growing influence of digital culture on children, families and Christian worship has become a major concern for religious leaders, with the District Pastor of Winners Chapel International, Aflao, Pastor Frank K. Teye, calling for stronger biblical guidance and discipleship.

Teye raised the concern in Accra during the launch of his five books, which focus on prayer, spiritual warfare, worship, dreams, family life and the upbringing of children in the digital age.

He said the church needed to pay greater attention to discipleship, character development and family values rather than focusing only on miracles and other spiritual experiences.

“The greatest need of the church is not always another miracle. Sometimes it is a deeper understanding of God’s Word. We need truth. We need discipleship. We need character. We need families that function according to God’s principles,” Teye said.

One of the books, Raising Godly Children in a Gen-Z Era, addresses the challenges confronting parents as children grow up in an environment heavily influenced by technology and social media.

Teye said parents must move beyond providing material needs for their children and become more deliberate about their presence, guidance and spiritual development.

He also examined the changing role of worship teams in Raising a Holy Ghost Fired Choir, arguing that musical ability alone should not define a church choir.

“A choir should be more than people who sing beautifully. They must be set on fire by the Holy Spirit,” he said.

In Breaking Every Curse, Teye addresses fear, bitterness, negative thinking and what he described as ignorance of biblical truth, while In the Law Court of God explores prayer and spiritual warfare through courtroom imagery.

The fifth book, Dreams and Their Meanings, provides biblical guidance on spiritual experiences while cautioning believers against allowing such experiences to take precedence over Scripture.

Teye said his decision to write the books was driven by the need to extend his pastoral teachings beyond the pulpit.

“These books are not written to give you information. They are written to provoke transformation,” he said.

According to him, while a sermon may reach a congregation at a particular time, a book can continue to influence readers years later and across geographical boundaries.

The pastor said his experience in Aflao, where Christianity interacts with traditional beliefs and modern lifestyles, had reinforced his conviction that the church needed deeper teaching and intentional discipleship.

Teye said he hoped the publications would reach audiences beyond Ghana and Africa through digital platforms.

“Technology makes it possible for a message written here to reach someone in Europe, America or Asia. The message of Jesus is global. I am praying these books become another vehicle for the Great Commission,” he said.

The National Pastor of Winners Chapel International in Ghana, Ben Andrew, who attended the launch, commended Teye for his commitment and described Raising Godly Children in a Gen-Z Era as particularly relevant to congregations confronting the challenges of the digital age.

Teye also disclosed plans to organise teaching conferences, prayer gatherings, family seminars and worship training around the themes contained in the books.

“My greatest prayer is not that these five books will make me famous. My prayer is that they will make Christ known,” he said.
