The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has condemned the recent brutal killings in Jos, Plateau State, and urged the federal government to take a decisive action to halt the violence and ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice.

Reacting to the incidents, the executive secretary of the commission, Tony Ojukwu, described the attacks as senseless and deeply troubling, noting that they mirrored similar bloodshed recorded in parts of Benue, Kaduna and Zamfara states, where innocent citizens have continued to lose their lives.

“We strongly condemn these senseless killings and express our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims,” he said, stressing that the recurring violence underscored a growing threat to the fundamental right to life in Nigeria.

Ojukwu said the commission was not only condemning the attacks but demanding immediate and concrete steps to safeguard citizens.

“Enough is enough. The government must act now to stop these atrocities and bring perpetrators to justice. The silence is deafening, and the lack of accountability is emboldening these attackers,” he stated.

The NHRC boss called on security agencies to intensify operations in affected areas, including the urgent deployment of additional personnel to prevent further attacks and restore public confidence.

He further urged authorities to carry out thorough investigations and ensure the swift prosecution of those behind the violence, emphasizing that justice must not only be done but seen to be done to deter future crimes.

Ojukwu also highlighted the need for comprehensive support for victims and survivors, including access to medical care, protection, and adequate compensation, warning that neglecting victims could deepen grievances and prolong cycles of violence.
