Commission Presents Citizens Budget To Niger Governor

The Niger State Planning Commission has presented the abridged version of the citizens budget to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago,

The commissioner for planning, Mustapha Ndajiwo, while making the presentation, said the state’s budget of the future had been developed to make government finances more accessible and understandable for the people.

He said it was aimed at a simplified version of the approved estimates presented in infographics for the people to clearly understand the intentions of government.

The commissioner described the importance of the new plan as one of the positive innovations adopted from the state’s participation in the Open Governance Partnership Initiative.

He said the Citizens’ Budget had brought a new dimension to the participation of citizens in governance as it increased their understanding of government finances (inflow and outflow), involvement in decision- making and implementation of the budget, thereby promoting transparency accountability and inclusiveness.

Ndajiwo disclosed that the current edition is the seventh in the series of citizens’ budgets produced by the state which outlined all government expected revenues and their sources, including loans and grants.

He said in pursuit of the transformation to building a new and sustainable Niger, the 2024 budget was focused on urban renewal and rural transformation, security of lives and property, infrastructure development, agriculture and food security, health and  education among others.
