The National Hydroelectric Power Production Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has commenced remediation measures across communities downstream of River Benue prone to flooding.

This was disclosed by the commissioner’s managing director/CEO, Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, during a courtesy visit to Governor Abdullahi Sule in Lafia. He said the commission under his leadership was working to reverse the growing damaging effects of ecological disasters arising from the operation of hydroelectric dams and  promoting socio-economic development in power producing and riverine areas.

“These communities sacrifice much for national progress, often enduring displacement, flooding, soil erosion and disruption of livelihoods,” he stated.

He noted that in Nasarawa State, the commission is currently intervening in communities across multiple local governments, such as  Keffi to Kokona, Toto, Awe, Doma, Keana, Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon, Wamba and Lafia.
