A community leader in Ihie Nodu autonomous community, Ishiagu in the Ivo local government area of Ebonyi State, Prince Chinedu Okoro, has called on the youths of the community to shun all forms of social vices and ensure peaceful disposition and unity amongst them to foster development in the community.
Prince Okoro made the call in his country home in Ihie Nodu community of Ishiagu during an event to interface with youths of the community tagged “A Day with the Prince of Ihie Autonomous Community.”
He noted that part of the aim of bringing the youths together was to ascertain their economic challenges and propose possible solutions.
Prince Okoro, who is also an Abuja-based philanthropist and town planner expressed his determination to tackle unemployment in Ihie Nodu Autonomous Community by supporting the youths of the area in succeeding in their chosen career.
He explained that the event was also an opportunity to sensitise the youths as leaders of tomorrow, pointing out that it would also provide direction to them so that they wouldn’t be misguided into getting involved in social vices and criminal acts.
He said that some of the youths have benefited from his mentorship, economic programme and job provision, adding that there are robust plans to sustain the programme to ensure wider coverage of the youths.
He noted that he has previously given money to those who want to do trade, adding that he has also registered West African Examination Council WAEC for some indigent students in the community.
“Before now, I gave money to those who wanted to do trade. Realising the importance of education, I paid WAEC fees to about 20 students who couldn’t afford them. I have also trained many people who are graduates today.
“I have worked assiduously to ensure that peace continues and remains to exist in our community because I know that where there are no peace, there won’t be progress, there won’t be unity and there won’t be government presence. So we are doing all we could to continue to ensure peace and peaceful co-existance of everyone,” he said.
One of the youths, Mr. Chinagorom Okoachi, commended Prince Okoro for his philanthropic gestures to the people of the community. He pointed out that apart from his philanthropic nature, he has always initiated reconciliatory moves that have normalized relationships and restored peace in the community.
The chairman of the organising committee of the event, Mr. Ifeanyi Uwa, described the event as a welcome development, noting that, at the end, qualified graduates of the community will have their certificates documented for job opportunities and other meaningful ventures.
