The Aromolaran Muslim Community has expressed concern over the recurring accidents on the Odejayi–Aromonlaran axis of the Gate–Sawmill, Old Ife Road in Ibadan, Oyo State, which have claimed four lives within the last two years and continue to endanger residents, students, and road users.

It was gathered that several fatal accidents have been recorded on the stretch of the road, including the tragic death of a Loyola College student earlier this year.

Following the incident, the state government installed a speed bump in front of the school to curb speeding.

However, during the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the coronation of Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, the newly installed Olubadan of Ibadanland, the speed bump was removed to allow the presidential convoy to pass unhindered.

It has not been replaced since then, leaving pedestrians vulnerable.

On December 1st, 2025, another severe accident occurred when Imam Sobur Owolabi Opeyemi, the Imam of Aromolaran Muslim Community, was knocked down by a motorcycle while crossing the road to his residence.

He was initially unconscious before regaining stability, further amplifying the urgent need for immediate safety intervention.

Commenting on the development, Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade, a member of the community, stated, “This road has become a danger zone for our people.

“We cannot continue to witness preventable deaths. We appeal to the Oyo State government to restore the speed bump and implement lasting safety measures to protect lives.

“The community is therefore calling on His Excellency, Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde, and relevant state authorities to urgently reinstall speed bumps, enforce speed limits, and introduce additional traffic-calming measures along the affected road”, he added.

The community emphasised that safeguarding human life must remain a top priority and urged swift government intervention to prevent further tragedies.
