Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has said the newly inaugurated computerised vehicle inspection scheme in the state would reduce the rate of road accidents.

Otti stated this at the inauguration of the vehicle inspection centre in Ubalaka, Umuahia South local government, describing the centre as novel in the state.

“In addition to ensuring the operation of roadworthy vehicles, it will also boost the internally generated revenue of the state,” he noted.

Represented by his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, Otti added that the centre would go a long way to achieve the administration’s drive to create job opportunities for youths.

The governor praised facilitators of the centre, Temple SYC, for partnering the administration to actualise it and appreciated the ministry of transport for conceiving the idea.

In his address, the commissioner for transport, Sunny Onwuma, said it would ensure the use of road worthy vehicles and check road accidents.

Onwuma, who assured that the ministry would partner the facilitators in inculcating safety driving culture in the state, urged the people to key into the idea.

In his remarks, the group managing director of Temple SYC, Segun Obayendo, represented by Ezedum Obinwanne, expressed delight that the state had inaugurated the centre.

Explaining that the state had joined the league of 26 others that had shared commitment to reduce road accidents, he added that the centre has capacity to inspect 200 vehicles daily.
