An early morning fire outbreak at Rangaza community of Ungogo local government area of Kano State has claimed the lives of a couple.

Sixty-seven-year-old Muhammad Uba and his wife, Fatima Muhammad were said to be trapped by the smoke of fire that engulfed their apartment.

The spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Yusif Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a statement yesterday, explaining that the incident happened around 1:45am.

He said the service received an emergency call for assistance from one of its staff members, Ahmed Abubakar, who informed the control room.

“Crew on duty from Bompai fire station were mobilised to the place and arrived at the scene at about 01:51am; on arrival, they successfully controlled the fire that completely engulfed the two rooms used as a dwelling place.

“They were trapped by the smoke but rescued unconscious with burns in some parts of their bodies and later confirmed dead,” he said.

He said the corpses were handed over to the ward head of the community, Muhammado Rayyanu, while the cause of the fire was under investigation.
