Court Jails 8 Niger Teenagers For Public Disturbance

Eight teenagers have been sentenced to five years jail each for inciting disturbance and causing disorder in Niger State.

They were found guilty by the Minna Chief Magistrate Court No1 sitting at the Judiciary headquarters, Minna

The presiding chief magistrate, Hajiya Hauwa Kulu Isah gave the sentence after they pleaded guilty to the two count charges brought against them.

The convicts are Mohammed Hussaini Salim, Aliyu Abubakar Danmari, Mahmudu Yahaya and Abba Mustapha Jugol.

Others include Raphael Solomon, Ibrahim Mohammed Abba, Mohammed Isah Abdullahi and Aminu Mohammed Sani.

They pleaded guilty to the two count charges which bordered on disturbing public peace and inciting disturbances, which contravened sections 113 and 114 of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor, inspector Mohammed Bello Beji requested the presiding chief magistrate to try them summarily and convict them in accordance with section 157 of the criminal procedure code (CPC) after they pleaded guilty.

The police authorities in Niger State command had some times in January, 2022, arrested the teenagers on the allegations of inciting disturbance, rioting, armed robbery, culpable homicide among other heinous offences that caused restiveness in Minna the state capital.
