The Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP) has supported the disposition of the party to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to the southern region of the country.

CP-PDP, an umbrella assembly of professionals in the PDP, said after far-reaching consultations and analysis of the electoral fortunes of the party, zoning the presidential ticket to the south gives the PDP a vantage position to defeat President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

A statement signed by the protem national coordinator of CP-PDP, Barr. Obinna Nwachukwu, with the benefit of their expertise in the current political demography in the country, zoning the ticket to the contrary or throwing it open will be counter-productive to the PDP as it would upstage the already established eight-year power swing between the north and the south.

“Given the failure of the Tinubu administration and the general desire by Nigerians to vote him out in 2027, it is imperative for national stability to democratically replace with a better hand from the South in 2027 to complete the south’s eight years and thereafter return power to the north in 2031.

“The Conference, other things also reviewed the communique of the 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and commended the Party leadership for the legal steps to recover the seats of all serving members of the National and State Assemblies elected on the platform of the PDP but defected to another Party.”

CP-PDP also commended the NEC for stabilising and giving the party a direction by successfully scheduling of the year 2025 elective National Convention for Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.

“Against this background the Conference appeals to aggrieved members of the party, especially those who are contemplating to move to other political parties to reassess their stand especially in the light of the renewed efforts by the party to chart a new course with the coming National Convention.

“The PDP has a purpose for all Nigerians and we believe that this is the time that all hands must be on deck to present a formidable common front of well-meaning like-minds on the platform of the PDP to liberate our nation from the vicious grip of the APC.

“After a detailed evaluation of the political situation in the country, it is indubitable that the PDP remains Nigeria’s foremost democratic political movement, which despite the challenges stands as a beacon of hope for millions of Nigerians in their aspiration for a more secure, stable and prosperous nation,” the PDP group said.
