Nigeria’s Junior YellowGreens have secured qualification to the next division of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifier after producing a stunning 407-run demolition of Mozambique U19 in Kigali.

Nigeria set a new tournament record at the IPRC Oval, amassing 461 for six in 50 overs before dismissing Mozambique for just 54 in 23 overs to complete one of the most emphatic victories of the competition.

Four batsmen provided the foundation for Nigeria’s record-breaking total, combining for 385 runs.
Hossana Omonkhobhio led the way with an impressive 84 off 73 balls, including 11 fours and two sixes, while captain Ali Rahmon contributed a composed 41 off 46 balls, hitting eight boundaries.

Peculiar Egemasi then took the attack apart with a superb 123 off 84 balls, striking 18 fours and three sixes.

But the biggest fireworks came from Bright Edem Nyong, who produced a breathtaking unbeaten 137 off just 53 balls. His innings included 11 fours and 12 sixes at a remarkable strike rate of 258.49.

Nyong’s assault ensured Nigeria finished on 461 for six, with the Junior YellowGreens setting Mozambique an imposing target.

The bowlers then completed the job in ruthless fashion.

Kenneth Boniface claimed three wickets for 13 runs, while Princewill Chigozie returned excellent figures of two for eight in eight overs, including four maidens.

Egemasi capped his Player of the Match performance with three wickets for just one run from his solitary over.

The victory strengthened Nigeria’s position on the tournament table and secured the Junior YellowGreens’ qualification, with one fixture against Sierra Leone U19 still to come.
