The first place finisher in the female category takes home N50,000, 2nd place N30,000 and 3rd  N20,000.

He said the marathons race is aimed at bringing the different clans and villages that make up the Akparabong Community together and speak with one voice.

He called on sons and daughters both home and in diaspora to lend their material and moral support to the success of the programme.

“A time has come when all sons and daughters of the community, home and abroad, come together for the success of the programme.

“Marathon race is not strange to residents of the state, just like the state used to organise Obudu Mountain Race where athletes of Kenya and Mexico nationals used to come and win $ 50,000 after leaving the shores of their countries to win the trophy and cash prize for the first  and second positions.

“As a community we don’t want to be left behind to see the mountain race programme be revived by the incoming administration.

We don’t want the programme to fade away and we are aware that another administracion can come and decide to revive that programme.

“If we begin, who knows, an incoming administration may come and decide to revive the mountain race. That would place our people at an advantage.”
