Thousands of Nko community residents, in Yakurr local government area of Cross River State have benefitted from a medical outreach organised by the lawmaker representing Yakurr Two State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly (CRHA).
The free medical outreach offered the residents ranged from consultations to screenings.
Akpama said the initiative was a direct response to the glaring health gaps in her constituency, especially among rural and youth populations who often lack easy access to clinics.
“Many of our people travel for hours just to see a doctor,” she told LEADERSHIP Friday.
Akpama said, “Providing care on their doorstep is the most practical way to protect their wellbeing and ensure they can contribute to the development of our community.”
She explained that the outreach also served as a platform to reinforce her broader agenda of grassroots empowerment.
By coupling medical services with a leadership‑mentorship programme, she aims to address both immediate health needs and the long‑term goal of equipping youths with skills and opportunities.
“When people are healthy, they can pursue education, start businesses and build a stronger Yakurr II,” she added.
The event, which attracted APC members, community leaders and students, is expected to become a regular feature of the lawmaker’s constituency‑engagement calendar.
