A civil society organisation, Centre for Security and Good Governance (CSO) has accused some politicians of working with some disgruntled officers in the Nigerian military to bring down the country’s intelligence and service chiefs.
The group said the ultimate goal of the politicians is to ensure the replacement of the security top brass because their present posture would not favour them to win the 2023 elections through manipulation.
In a press statement signed by spokesman of the centre, Comrade Musa Saleh Malumfashi and made available to journalists in Abuja, the group said the affected politicians which it did not name were not also comfortable with the success the security agents had made against terrorism and banditry because they benefit from the security challenges.
Malumfashi said, “It has come to our notice that certain greedy and unpatriotic elements in the military are scheming and plotting the sack of the service and intelligence chiefs to be replaced by their stooges so that they can feast on the security votes during elections and partake in the rigging of elections for the highest bidders. This must not be allowed to happen as it will amount to truncating our growing democracy and draw us back on the war against terrorism, insurgency and banditry.”
