A group of Civil Society Organizations in Nigeria has come out to show their support for the Executive Vice President of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Tombomieye Adokiye, amidst allegations of crude oil theft and instigation of violence in the Niger Delta region.
In a press conference held by the coalition, the spokesperson, Amb. Nwokoma Messiah, urged those behind the blackmail to stop immediately or face the consequences of the civil society in Nigeria. He emphasized that Mr. Adokiye is a career public servant and not a politician, and his appointment was based on merit and experience, not by engaging in such conduct.
The group vouched for Mr. Adokiye’s integrity and character, describing him as a true son of the Niger Delta and a humble man who would not engage in any unbecoming conduct. They also stated that the allegations against him were baseless and unfounded, aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
Amb. Nwokoma also called out the group responsible for the alleged blackmail, describing them as faceless and their leader, Davies Iyieke, as a serial blackmailer. He urged security agencies to investigate their activities and take appropriate actions.
