Addressing a press conference in Ikeja, Lagos yesterday, the head of the coalition, Comrade Shina Loremikan, said the latest campaign of calumny and blackmail against the NUPRC boss was reprehensible and must be condemned in the strongest terms.

Loremikan said the allegations of compromising marginal fields bid round of 13 oil fields were baseless.
He said, “We condemned the attempts by some elements, within the civil society, acting under the guise of Civil Society Situation Room, to once again, engage in unprofessional action and misconduct that negate the advancement of the society.

“An unjust attack on the person and office of the chief executive officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) Engr Gbenga Komolafe, is uncalled for.

“The situation room in the civil society space is known in Nigeria and beyond to be deeply concerned with electoral and elections matters, not oil and gas.

“However, our attention has been drawn to a baseless allegations regarding compromised marginal fields bid round of 13 oil fields and undermining signature bonus of the federation in the Nigerian petroleum upstream sector have been leveled against the NUPRC boss by these individuals, whose main intention, is only known to them.’’

“At best to embarrass and distract the headship and arrow head of NUPRC. We wish to categorically state that the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations is fully aware that, some of those behind this nefarious attempt do not belong to any credible organization, nor are they recognized within the genuine civil society community in Nigeria.’’
